Steve Beard on The Passion of the Christ on National Review Online

Wednesday, February 25, 2004
Steve Beard on The Passion of the Christ on National Review Online:
"'I'm not a preacher and I'm not a pastor. But I really feel my career was leading me to make this,' Gibson has said. 'The Holy Ghost was working through me on this film, and I was just directing traffic. I hope the film has the power to evangelize.'
"That should not be a problem. I have been a Christian for 20 years and after seeing The Passion I wanted to sign up all over again." -- Steve Board

Roy Schoeman on The Passion of the Christ on National Review Online

Roy Schoeman on The Passion of the Christ on National Review Online:
"It seems odd that today's self-appointed arbiters of public morality are eager to canonize sodomy as a fundamental human right, and to defend the display of a dung-smeared Madonna at public expense as a heroic exercise of First Amendment rights, while condemning Mel Gibson's literal portrayal of the Gospels as beyond the pale of acceptable social behavior. It is enough to lead one to believe that, to these critics, it is God Himself -- at least, a personal God who places any particular requirements on moral behavior or, worse yet, religious practice -- who is the enemy. The only God acceptable to them would be an amorphous one with no religious or moral preferences, and the only acceptable religion one that asserts no claim to objective truth. Unfortunately Christianity fails both of these tests, and thus so do Mel Gibson and his movie." — Roy Schoeman

Feedback on "The Passion," anyone?
You just may be tiring of the spate of debate, hype and promo concerning "The Passion" , but those of you living in the USA, and a few other countries, have one big advantage -- you actually can view the movie beginning today. It will be at least a month before it begins in Taiwan, so I'd be interested in hearing from you -- the non-professional "reviewers" and "critics" -- after you've had a chance to see "The Passion" -- sort of a grass-roots review. I might even compile some of your feedback and post it here! /Chuck

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST / **** (R)

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST / **** (R):

"If ever there was a film with the correct title, that film is Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of the Christ.' Although the word passion has become mixed up with romance, its Latin origins refer to suffering and pain; later Christian theology broadened that to include Christ's love for mankind, which made him willing to suffer and die for us." -- Roger Ebert, film critic

CCF'S SURVIVAL GUIDE- "WE ARE CITIZENS OF HEAVEN" PHILIPPIANS 3 : 20 (NLT)

Tuesday, February 24, 2004
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CCF'S SURVIVAL GUIDE- Tuesday 2/24/04
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perspective

"WE ARE CITIZENS OF HEAVEN" PHILIPPIANS 3 : 20 (NLT)

Billy Graham writes,
"I have a friend who during the Depression lost his job, his fortune, his wife, and his home. But he tenaciously held to his faith - the only thing he had left. One day he stopped to watch some men doing stonework on a huge church. One of them was chiselling a triangular
piece of stone. 'What's that for?' asked my friend. The workman said, 'See that little opening way up there near the spire? Well, I'm shaping this down here so that it'll fit in up there.'

Tears filled the eyes of my friend as he walked away, for God had used this workman to help him understand the ordeal through which he was going. 'I'm shaping you down here, so that you'll fit in up there!'"
The Bible says, "we are citizens of heaven." We are on earth on a temporary visa - never forget that. Weigh your actions and your decisions in the light of your ultimate destiny, not your immediate comfort. Get rid of the idea that '"thoughts of heaven are only the pleasantries of the ageing". This life is the short story; heaven is the unending one. Tummy tucks, face-lifts, liposuction, fame, fortune, and personal empire building notwithstanding, our earthly suit isn't going to last forever. Before you shed it, be sure you've fulfilled your destiny, and that you're ready to hear the words: "Well done, good and faithful servant!"(Matthew 25:21NIV).

One second after arriving in God's presence, what are you going to wish you had not left undone?
How different each day of life would be if that guided our actions and attitudes!

Crucifixion? Gee, Pass the Popcorn -- Grills - 2004, February 20

Sunday, February 22, 2004
Grills - 2004, February 20:

"I dread seeing 'The Passion of the Christ.' I don't expect it to be anti-Semitic. I don't expect it to be too violent or gory for my tastes. I don't expect to be annoyed by the film's foreign dialogue.

"Simply put, I don't want to see 'Passion' because I harbor a deep fear that I will walk away changed. And, like any honest person will admit, I despise the idea of changing. Minus a dated wardrobe and a couple of disgusting habits, what's so wrong with me?" ...from the above article

Hmmm... Could this be the real reason that "The Passion" has faced such an uphill battle? I don't even know if it will ever come to Taiwan, but I feel a bit "uneasy" about seeing the movie myself, and I AM a believer! (A friend has promised to send a copy to Molly & I as soon as it's out on DVD, so I'm not "off the hook.") Click above and read on... /cj

PC footsteps Gator Information Center

Gator Information Center:

"PC Pitstop believes that Gator products can degrade the quality of a user's PC experience, and the applications themselves are not a good value. This belief is based on our hands-on use of Gator products, surveys of users that have Gator on their systems, and visitor feedback from our forums. Most Gator 'users' are not aware of what Gator is doing on their PC behind the scenes, and even many advertisers are not aware their ads are being shown by Gator's ad network through third-party contracts or Gator's connection with Overture."

Yep -- this is Chuckz Blog!

Friday, February 20, 2004
HI!
For those of you who are visiting Chuckz Blog for the first time, a few words about how to use it:

1) Postings are listed chronologically -- most recent postings at the top, earlier ones at the end.

2) Posting dates and times are TSD (Taiwan Standard Time).

3) After 30 days, postings are archived and can be accessed via the links on the right margin.

4) I am the only one who posts to this weblog -- though, obviously, only some of the material originated with me.

5) Some of what is posted here was written by me (I'll take the "heat" for those postings.) ;-)

6) I "vet" other articles, URL's etc that I post, but that doesn't mean that I agree with everything said by the authors or on the sites.

Enjoy!

Dave's Quick Search Taskbar Toolbar Deskbar

I have been using Dave's Quick Search Toobar for several years now -- can't imagine functioning without it! I just type Windows Key+S and a cursor appears in DQST at the bottom of the screen. Then, I either type in search text (default: Google) or a URL and a browser window opens immediately with the search or the site. There's a lot more, too -- dictionary searches, people searches, references, etc.). And it's FREE! A great tool for improving efficiency when searching or researching!

Author embodies shifting of attitudes in Church of Christ

Author embodies shifting of attitudes in Church of Christ
by PAUL R. BUCKLEY
Knight-Ridder Newspapers

Max Lucado has heard the joke. Of course he has.

A guy goes to heaven. St. Peter gives him the tour, stopping at room after room of various believers: Baptists here, Methodists there, and Catholics over yonder. Tiptoeing past the last room and shushing the wide-eyed newcomer, the great saint whispers: 'And there are the Church of Christ folks. They don't think anybody else is here.'
It's an old one, but Max Lucado still laughs because he knows as well as anyone the Church of Christ's no-one's-saved-but-us reputation. He's a Church of Christ minister; after all, as well as the hottest Christian writer around. "
