Shop CAREFULLY if buying a laptop with vista installed!
If you’re thinking about purchasing a notebook computer with any version of Vista loaded on it, you should probably do what Deb Shinder (WXPNews) did before picking one out…
“Last weekend, I did a little experiment. I went to Fry’s and went around to each of the laptops on display that was running Vista, and ran the Windows Experience Index. I found that many of them got scores under 3.0 - which means those computers really won’t run Vista satisfactorily, certainly not with Aero turned on. Some of the most expensive computers (over $2000), most of them subcompacts, had scores of 2.0 to 2.5. One laptop did have a score of 4.9, but it was a Toshiba that cost $3100 and had a high powered video card. It was an interesting exercise and something you should definitely do before you purchase a laptop with the intent of running Vista.”
I did something similar to this when I shopped for Molly’s notebook with Vista Home Premium installed and came out with a good balance of price, power and speed. It’s a real mistake to assume that “Vista ready” means very much!
