Back in Business!
Whew—I dodged a bullet!
If you attempted to access Chuckz Blog II during the last several hours, you know that “something was wrong”—very wrong! In attempting to eliminate trash and simplify the structure of stuff on my host’s root directory at Site 5, I not-so-brightly deleted the SQL Database for Chuckz Blog II!
OUCH! BIG time pain and agony! Fortunately I had done one very BRIGHT thing recently—I had backed up my WordPress files! Even so, I’m not so knowledgeable about configuring WordPress that I was able to “get it all back” in one fell swoop. In the end, I had to delete ALL my existing SQL DB’s and start from scratch with a new WP install. Maybe a half-hour’s effort—not too shabby!
To make a long, boring, geeky story (a little) shorter, I re-created a new user and a new database, reinstalled the WordPress files, uploaded my blog’s saved database and—hey, presto!—I was back in business. Not only that, but because Windows Live Writer saves local copies of recent postings, I got EVERYTHING back! Yeah!
There’s still a tiny bit of tweaking to do to get back to the previous “look and feel” of my web log, but that can wait for a few days. (I really DO have a life beyond my blog—really!)
Back in the saddle,
Chuck
